DENVER (AP) - Seventeen people were injured in a fire at a Denver area condo complex that forced many residents to jump to safety.
The fire started at around 11 p.m. Wednesday at the three-story building in unincorporated Arapahoe County. Firefighters say some residents were hanging from or jumping from windows when they arrived.
The Cunningham Fire Protection District says six people had to go to the hospital. The injured included a sheriff’s deputy who suffered smoke inhalation after going into the building to help without a gas mask.
The complex doesn’t have any sprinklers and fire chief Ira Rhodes told KUSA-TV (https://on9news.tv/1iSKqE3) that the fire wouldn’t have spread as much as it did if there were.
