PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say seven people have been arrested after a shoplifting ring stole more than $50,000 in merchandise in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

The spree totaled 49 incidents in Phoenix, Glendale, Peoria, Gilbert, Chandler, Scottsdale and Avondale.

Phoenix police say members of the group stole big-ticket items between May 7 and Sept. 3 including designer handbags, clothing and sunglasses.

Among the stores targeted were Macy’s, Burlington Coat Factory, T.J. Maxx and Marshalls.

Police say the seven suspects were arrested on Sept. 10.

They say the retailers worked together and with detectives to end the shoplifting incidents and identify the suspects.
