FRANKLIN, N.H. (AP) - A woman has been arrested on a charge of arson in connection with a fire that destroyed an apartment building in Franklin.

Police said 28-year-old Amber Cowan of Franklin was arraigned Thursday, a day after she was arrested. She was being held at the Merrimack County House of Corrections in lieu of $500,000 bail.

A probable cause hearing was scheduled for 1 p.m. Sept. 28.

Her case was referred to the public defender’s office.

Firefighters said a family living in the building was able to escape the fire, which was reported Wednesday night.

WMUR-TV reports Cowan had been living in a second-floor apartment, but was served with an eviction notice Monday.
