A Florida man self-described as a “monster” was charged with first-degree murder after admitting that he fatally disemboweled his girlfriend with his hands Sunday after she uttered her ex-husband’s name twice during sex, police said.

Fidel Lopez, 24, of the 1600 block of N.W. 128th Drive in Sunrise, Florida, had shared an apartment for a week with the victim, Maria Nemeth, 31. He is accused of killing her while in a drunken rage after both had tequila and sex, WPLG Local 10 in Miami reported.

Mr. Lopez called 911 and initially said his girlfriend had gone to the bathroom and vomited, but now she wasn’t breathing, according to the police report.

When police arrived, they said they found evidence of “some type of struggle and foul play” — holes in the walls, a shattered rear sliding glass door, the bathroom door unhinged, blood in a closet and bathroom — and the woman disemboweled and naked on the bathroom floor near the doorway.

Mr. Lopez later told detectives that he and his girlfriend were having sex in a closet when she said her ex-husband’s name twice, which enraged him and turned him into a “monster.” He said she had passed out and then he inserted various objects into her body, culminating with him reaching inside and ripping her intestines out, police reported.

He told police that she never regained consciousness.

Mr. Lopez is in jail and is being held without bond.
