CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Gov. Brian Sandoval has appointed one of his former top advisers to the Nevada panel that regulates boxing and mixed martial arts.

Sandoval announced Friday that Michon Martin would join the Nevada State Athletic Commission and finish the term of Commissioner Bill Brady, who resigned with a year left in his term.

Martin served as the Republican governor’s chief counsel and was instrumental in ushering his tax plan and agenda through the Legislature this spring. She left last month to take a position with Resorts World Las Vegas, which is developing a major Chinese-themed resort at the site of a casino project that stalled during the recession.

Sandoval called Martin smart and tough, and said it was important the commission uphold high standards so Nevada remains a top boxing destination.
