CHICAGO (AP) - A 28-year-old man whom prosecutors call a Chicago gang member has been found guilty of attempted murder in the 2011 shooting of two city police officers.

A Cook County jury convicted Alvis Holley late Friday after a four-day trial.

Holley was accused of starting a fight with the officers after he was asked to put his hands on the hood of their patrol car when they witnessed an alley drug deal.

One officer was shot in the left temple and bicep. The other was shot in the head.

State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez says Holley is a member of the Black Souls street gang. Prosecutors say he confessed to the shooting but said he had been attacked from behind by an unknown assailant and fired the shots in self-defense.
