LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities say four officers were hospitalized with minor injuries after two police cars collided in downtown Los Angeles.

Captain Jeff Burt says the patrol cars were rushing to provide backup when the crash happened early Thursday.

Three of the officers were treated at a hospital and released. KABC-TV reports the fourth is being held for observation of a possible concussion.

The collision sent one of the LAPD cruisers into a light pole and the other ended up on a sidewalk. There were two officers in each car.

Officials say the officers were speeding to assist in the pursuit of a suspect on foot. The suspect was arrested on an unknown charge.
