LAS VEGAS (AP) - A verdict has been reached in the trial of a former Las Vegas firefighter accused of hiring a homeless ex-convict to kill his estranged wife nearly three years ago.

The decision of the jury in the trial of George Tiaffay (TEE’-uh-fay) is scheduled to be read at 3:45 p.m. Thursday in Clark County District Court.

Prosecutors say Tiaffay manipulated Noel Stevens into killing Shauna Tiaffay in September 2012.

Tiaffay’s defense attorney says Stevens is responsible for the crime, and the testimony he provided against Tiaffay can’t be trusted.

Stevens, who pleaded guilty, told the jury that George Tiaffay promised him $5,000, bought the murder weapon and plotted the killing.

George Tiaffay was at work when Stevens attacked Shauna Tiaffay when she returned home from work as a casino cocktail waitress.
