WHAT’S AT STAKE

ULM opened the 2012 season by beating No. 8 Arkansas and rode the momentum to eight wins and an Independence Bowl berth. The Warhawks, who visit No. 3 Alabama on Sept. 26, have two early opportunities for another upset of a top 10 SEC team. Georgia is trying to avoid a misstep with new offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and new starting quarterback Greyson Lambert, a Virginia transfer.



KEY MATCHUP

Georgia’s pass rush against ULM quarterback Garrett Smith, who will be making his first start. Georgia linebackers Leonard Floyd, Jordan Jenkins and Reggie Carter combined for 15 ½ sacks in 2014 and will try to put pressure on the young quarterback.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

ULM: WR Rashon Ceaser will try to extend his streak of catches in 31 consecutive games, the fifth-longest in FBS.

Georgia: Lambert, who lost his starting job at Virginia in spring practice, needs a strong showing to solidify his role as the newly named starter. Georgia may also give snaps to backups Brice Ramsey and Faton Bauta.

ULM is making its second straight trip to the state of Georgia after closing its 2014 season with a loss at new Sun Belt rival Georgia Southern. … Georgia will introduce Uga X, the latest in the line of Uga mascots, at some point this season. Georgia hasn’t announced a date for the change, but Saturday would be a logical time to retire Uga IX, named Russ, who recently turned 11. … Georgia is 39-2 at home in nonconference games under coach Mark Richt since 2001. That record includes a home loss to Georgia Tech in the Bulldogs’ last home game. … Georgia’s 38 rushing touchdowns last season, including 14 by Nick Chubb, ranked second in school history. Chubb opens his first full season as the starting tailback.
