OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a 19-year-old autistic man from suburban San Francisco drowned in a recreational lake after falling into the water.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1JTtbNb ) Friday that Felipe Andres Medina of Concord, California was walking Thursday evening with his sister on a path on the west side of Lake Temescal, when he fell into the water.

The sister tried to save him but she could not swim. She was not injured.

A bystander called 911, jumped into the lake and was able to pull the sister to safety, but Medina had drifted further out into the lake, the newspaper reported.

Oakland police and firefighters arrived, found Medina and removed him from the water. He died at Highland Hospital in Oakland.
