RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The new acting director of the State Bureau of Investigation is taking on added duties.
Gov. Pat McCrory announced Deputy Director Janie Sutton will take on the increased responsibilities with the retirement of B.W. Collier, whose earlier-announced retirement was effective Friday.
Sutton joined the bureau in 1991 and has served as a field agent, special agent in charge and assistant director of field operations.
Collier was the first director of the SBI since lawmakers in 2014 moved the North Carolina crime investigation agency from being under the Attorney General to a Cabinet-level department of the governor. Collier was also the first director confirmed by the legislature as part of that change.
