ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) - The owner of an Atlantic City hotel and cafe has paid his property taxes one month early to help the struggling Jersey shore city as it faces a possible government shutdown.
The Press of Atlantic City reports (https://bit.ly/1Towh0v ) Perry Arsenis, owner of the city’s Howard Johnson Hotel and Perry’s Cafe on Tennessee Avenue, wrote out a check just short of $25,000 Friday to the cash-strapped casino town.
Atlantic City will run out of money next week and is bracing for a potential shutdown.
Arsenis says the city has been good to him and his family, so he took full advantage of the opportunity to return the favor in such a critical time. He says he just wishes that Gov. Chris Christie “would get the memo.”
