LAGRANGE, N.C. (AP) - Authorities in Lenoir County say a teenager is facing two charges in the accidental shooting death of a 17-year-old girl.

Local media outlets report sheriff’s deputies were called to a shooting in LaGrange on Thursday. When they arrived at the scene, they found the victim with a gunshot wound who later died.

Detectives said 18-year-old Austin Ray Newcome was handling a firearm when the gun accidentally discharged and hit the victim. An investigation determined the gun was stolen.

Sheriff Ronnie Ingram says Newcome is charged with involuntary manslaughter and possession of a stolen firearm. Newcome is in jail on a $90,000 secured bond. Online records don’t say whether he has an attorney.
