PETROLIA, Pa. (AP) - Company officials say they’re investigating a fire and explosion at a western Pennsylvania petroleum processing plant.
Sonneborn Corp. said Friday that the fire at its plant in Petrolia was under control in about an hour. One worker was hurt but refused treatment at a hospital. No chemicals were released or spilled during the incident.
Butler County 911 dispatchers say the incident was reported shortly before 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
The plant about 45 miles northeast of Pittsburgh makes waxes and other products including petrolatum, which is used in baby oil and petroleum jellies.
The company says the fire occurred in the hydrotreating unit of the plant. That section remains shut down Friday, but the rest of the plant was operating normally.
The company has operated the plant since 1903.
