HOUSTON (AP) - A psychiatrist at a Houston hospital that was at the center of a $158 million Medicare fraud scheme has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for her part in the scheme.
Dr. Sharon Iglehart was an attending psychiatrist at Riverside General Hospital in Houston. Aside from the prison term, U.S. District Judge Ewing Werlein Jr. also ordered her to pay almost $6.4 million in restitution and forfeit the same amount.
A jury in Houston convicted the 58-year-old psychiatrist last September of single counts of conspiracy and health care fraud and three counts of making false statements.
Twelve other persons also have been convicted for their roles in the scheme, with former hospital president and CEO Earnest Gibson III being sentenced to 45 years in prison.
