SHERMAN, Texas (AP) - An ex-principal at a North Texas elementary school faces up to life in prison after being arrested at a mall for trying to solicit sex from someone he thought was a boy.
Oscar Figueroa of Carrollton was convicted Friday of coercion and enticement of a minor. The 47-year-old Figueroa remains in custody pending sentencing by a federal judge in Sherman.
A Frisco police online sting last July led to Figueroa, who was principal of Viridian Elementary School in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District. Officers noticed a Craigslist advertisement about a person seeking a young male for sex.
An undercover officer posing as a 16-year-old boy contacted Figueroa, they exchanged texts and agreed to meet at a mall.
Figueroa resigned following his arrest in Frisco, about 20 miles north of Dallas.
