SAN ANTONIO (AP) - A former Texas Department of Public Safety worker faces up to five years in prison for accepting bribes and helping people in the U.S. illegally get a driver’s license.

Jose A. Ytuarte (ee-TWAHR’-tay) pleaded guilty Thursday in San Antonio to use of an interstate facility in aid of unlawful activity - bribery - in a plea deal.

Ytuarte worked as the Texas Department of Public Safety office in Hondo. He accepted cash for putting bogus information in the DPS computer system to provide licenses to ineligible drivers.

A co-defendant awaits trial on charges of conspiracy, transferring false identification documents and use of an interstate facility in aid of unlawful activity.

Prosecutors say the second man charged each immigrant up to $5,000, then bribed the clerk to help secure a license.
