HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island man who struck a teenager in the neck with a machete after losing a dice game will spend 25 years in prison.

Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced the sentence Friday for 47-year-old David Sadler of Hempstead.

The victim, 17-year-old Terrence Grier Jr., was wounded in the jugular vein on July 18, 2014.

Authorities said the defendant had left after their argument and returned with the machete.

Sadler was convicted of manslaughter on Feb. 19. He was acquitted of the indictment charge of second-degree murder.
