PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A carbon monoxide scare has forced the evacuation of a building in Portland.

Firefighters evacuated the entire Intermed building after several people on the upper floors showed symptoms of mild carbon monoxide poisoning.

Several office workers were taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The fire chief said a possible problem with the ventilation system was being investigated. The seventh and eighth floors were closed until further notice, but other offices were reopened.
