DETROIT (AP) - A recreation facility in Detroit got an overhaul thanks in part to a $100,000 donation by UAW-Ford.
A ribbon-cutting event is planned Saturday at the Chapel Vision community center on the city’s northeast side. It includes sports facilities, a fitness area and an arcade.
Jimmy Settles, UAW-Ford vice president, says in a statement that the facility will “create a safe haven for youth and residents needing recreational and basic life-skill training.”
The Chapel Vision Community Development Corporation installed a new heating and cooling system, lighting and security and renovated classrooms.
UAW-Ford also plans to announce its Mind & Manners Mentoring and Tutorial Program that will take place at the Chapel Vision center. The mentoring program will accept youth ages 8-13, providing them with tutoring, etiquette and sports training.
