SALEM, Mass. (AP) - A 27-year-old Salem man is dead after a shooting in an alleyway outside a city home and the gunman remains at large.

Authorities say Benjamin Magee was shot at about 3:30 p.m. outside a Park Street home Thursday. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His name was made public on Friday. Police say he did not live near the address where he was shot.

The Salem News reports that two city schools were placed in lockdown during a search for the suspect. As of Friday morning there had been no arrests.

Police think the shooting was sparked by a confrontation and there is no public safety threat.

The shooting was the city’s first homicide of the year.
