HILLSBORO, Mo. (AP) - An 83-year-old man is jailed on $500,000 cash-only bond after being accused of fatally shooting his wife in their suburban St. Louis home.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1oqjBta) reports that Jefferson County prosecutors on Friday charged Edwin Hipp with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

Authorities allege that Hipp shot 82-year-old Irma Hipp twice early Thursday in their Arnold home.

Court documents allege that the couple argued and that Irma Hipp retrieved a handgun from a living room recliner before her husband took the firearm away from her.

Online court records do not show whether Edwin Hipp has an attorney.
