CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Wyoming agencies are mobilizing to help workers being laid off from two large coal mines in the northeast part of the state.

The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, the Wyoming Department of Insurance, the Wyoming Community College Commission and the Wyoming Business Council are opening temporary community resource centers in Casper, Gillette and Douglas.

Gov. Matt Mead’s office says the temporary resource centers will provide help and information on unemployment insurance, job opportunities, job training, health insurance and counseling services.

The centers opened Friday and were scheduled to be open Saturday and Monday and possibly longer depending on demand. They will be staffed with experts able to assist individuals from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Peabody Energy and Arch Coal announced on Thursday layoffs of more than 460 workers.
