NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) - The suspect in an attack in Newport more than two months ago that landed the victim in the hospital has turned himself in.
Police say 25-year-old Freddie Hicks surrendered at the police station on Thursday accompanied by his lawyer.
Hicks was identified as a suspect in the Jan. 16 beating of Kyle Kettner soon after the attack, but disappeared. The 28-year-old Kettner, the father of a 4-year-old son, was in a medically induced coma for several days after the assault and wasn’t discharged from the hospital until early February.
Hicks was held on $2,000 cash bail at a court hearing Thursday. He did not enter a plea.
The suspect’s attorney, Noah Kilroy, told The Newport Daily News his client looks forward to clearing his name when all the facts come out.
