OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) - A train has derailed in eastern Alabama, but officials say no injuries were reported.

The Lee County Emergency Management Agency said in a written statement that the train left the tracks Friday morning in Opelika.

The agency said no hazardous materials are involved and “the situation is controlled.” However, drivers were being advised to avoid the area along South Uniroyal Road.

Authorities said officials from the Norfolk Southern Railway were also at the scene to investigate.
