ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A man who allegedly threatened his ex-girlfriend and her children at gunpoint has been taken into custody after a standoff with Albuquerque police.
Authorities say officers were called to a home shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday because of reports of a couple fighting and the woman was screaming.
Responding officers found a woman running out of an apartment with her children.
She said her ex-boyfriend, 30-year-old Gabriel Duarte, had come over uninvited and threatened them.
Officer Fred Duran says Duarte refused to exit the apartment.
After a five-and-a-half hour standoff, Duarte came out of the home and surrendered without incident.
He will be booked on several charges including kidnapping and aggravated assault against a household member with a deadly weapon.
Police say Duarte has a prior arrest record.
