CRESAPTOWN, Md. (AP) - Maryland State Police say a Cresaptown man is being held on charges he killed his infant daughter.

Police said in a statement they arrested Kyle J. Poindexter on Saturday following the death of 2-month-old Avery Poindexter. He was charged with second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

Police said the newborn was pronounced dead Friday at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Hospital workers called police when they saw bruises on the baby’s head and face.

Electronic records for Allegany County Detention Center in Cumberland confirmed that Poindexter was being held there Sunday. It was not clear if he had an attorney.
