KEYPORT, N.J. (AP) - Monmouth County officials say more than 40 people were treated for various health issues after a five-alarm fire at the New Jersey shore Friday.
Eight firefighters were sent to a hospital but didn’t suffer life-threatening injuries. Some were hurt during a partial building collapse.
A county prosecutor’s office spokesman tells the Asbury Park Press (https://on.app.com/22mqaKD) 42 people were treated after the fire in Keyport, on the Raritan Bay. All but one were firefighters. A civilian who was a member of the Salvation Army also was treated.
The fire destroyed several buildings and affected businesses and apartments above them. It drew approximately 200 firefighters in all.
The cause Is under investigation.
