PENNS GROVE, N.J. (AP) - Authorities have identified a New Jersey woman who died when she apparently made a wrong turn and drove into a creek.
Carneys Point Police Lt. Michael Colletti tells NJ.com (https://bit.ly/1qhqr5l) that 60-year-old Cathy Shorter of Salem had been attending a family event at the Salem County Sportsmen’s Club Saturday night.
Colletti says one of the club’s members spotted a car floating in a creek Sunday morning about 100 feet from a boat ramp.
Officials say Shorter’s body was found inside the vehicle.
The club is located in a wooded area near U.S. Route 40. The boat ramp is less than a mile from the clubhouse.
An autopsy is planned for Monday morning.
Local police and Salem County prosecutors are investigating.
