HERRIMAN, Utah (AP) - Real Salt Lake will have a new $50 million training facility and charter school in Herriman.

KUTV in Salt Lake City reports (https://bit.ly/1Q2dpOg) the soccer team announced the plans for the 42-acre property on Saturday.

Franchise owner Dell Loy Hansen says the Real Salt Lake Training Center will be “the most powerful community and youth training center in the United States.”

Hansen says the charter school concept is taken from a business model used in Europe and the United Kingdom.

Herriman Mayor Carmen Freeman also praised the proposal, saying it will be a “great economic driver” for the city.

Officials say they plan to enroll 250 students at the school for fall 2017.

The school will also teach science, math, engineering and technology.
