SYDNEY (AP) - Western Sydney clinched a home semifinal in Australian football’s A-League when it beat Wellington 2-0 in its last regular season match on Sunday to leapfrog Brisbane into second place.

Adelaide United won the minor premiership and the Premier’s Plate when it beat Melbourne City 2-0 on Friday and when Brisbane, which could have taken first place with a win, was held to a 0-0 draw by the Melbourne Victory.

Western Sydney started Sunday’s match in third place but overtook Brisbane to finish second behind Adelaide when Brendon Santalab scored two first-half goals. Adelaide and Western Sydney have now earned a week off before hosting semifinals.

Brisbane will play the Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City will play Perth in next weekend’s playoff matches. Perth finished fifth after it was beaten 4-0 by Sydney FC on Sunday.
