AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say an Auburn University student has been struck and killed by a train.

The Lee County Coroner’s Office Sunday night identified the student as 19-year-old Dakota Raymond Parker, who was from Decatur.

Al.com reports (bit.ly/1SJ4Xph) that Auburn police, firefighters and EMS workers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a train just early Saturday morning. Coroner Bill Harris said the accident happened near the railroad crossing along North College Street.

Parker was found lying between the rail road tracks, and was pronounced dead on the scene at 12:45 a.m. Saturday.

Harris said the case is being investigated as an accident by Auburn police, the State Medical Examiner’s Office and the Lee County Coroner’s Office.
