TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) - A 17-year-old girl has been rescued after she became separated from relatives while on a kayaking trip off the coast of Tarpon Springs.
The U.S. Coast Guard says the girl’s relatives reported her missing Sunday night. Four hours later, a helicopter crew spotted her drifting northwest of Honeymoon Island State Park.
The Tampa Bay Times (https://bit.ly/25UL7kt ) reports the girl told rescuers that she had lost her paddle when she was struck by the wake from a boat.
The Coast Guard says the girl appeared to be suffering from mild hypothermia.
Her name was not released. No further details were immediately available.
