PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A Pierre man accused of abusing a baby has changed his plea to guilty and told a judge that the incident happened when he passed out drunk.

KCCR radio reports that 25-year-old Darrell Custer pleaded guilty on Friday and remains free on bond until his May 31 sentencing. He could face up to 25 years in prison because of previous felonies.

Custer told Judge John Brown that he was holding the 9-month-old child last June when he passed out onto a bed, and the baby hit his head on a dresser.
