GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - Fans of the University of North Dakota hockey team lined up early to get their hands on national championship gear.

UND beat Quinnipiac 5-1 on Saturday in the NCAA Frozen Four in Tampa, Florida, to win the school’s eighth national hockey title and its first since 2000.

“It’s not just for this team, it’s for all those people. It’s for all those fans,” tournament Most Outstanding Player Drake Caggiula said after the game Saturday night. “It’s a 16-year drought, but it’s finally coming back to North Dakota.”

Fans were lined up outside the Sioux Shop on campus when it opened at noon Sunday, WDAZ-TV reported (https://bit.ly/1Mpd39T ).

“Some local vendors in Fargo and Detroit Lakes (Minnesota) had staff come in in the wee hours of the morning, print product, load it in trucks and drove it up to Grand Forks this morning,” store manager Jason Carlson said. “We had some stuff here as early as 7:00 this morning.”

Katie Grabowski was among the early-risers.

“I figured there would be a few people, so I kind of just wanted to go early and see if there was people waiting, but I wasn’t expecting there to be this many people at all,” she said. “It was crazy.”

UND has scheduled a public celebration Monday night at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
