CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a man wanted in connection with a hit-and-run accident that injured a veteran last week has been arrested.

Chandler police say 18-year-old Cody Gibson was taken into custody Wednesday by Gila River Indian Community police.

Gibson has an extradition hearing Thursday and is expected to be turned over to Chandler police.

Authorities say Gibson allegedly ran down Steven Richardson with an SUV in a parking lot last Thursday night.

The 31-year-old Richardson is a veteran who served two tours in Iraq.

Authorities say Richardson and his friend were trying to help a woman who was being dragged by her hair in an apparent domestic violence situation with Gibson.

Chandler police say Gibson allegedly hit Richardson at full speed. He suffered severe head injuries, but authorities say he’s recovering.
