NAMPA, Idaho (AP) - A woman caught in the middle of an eviction battle in southwestern Idaho has been arrested in connection with an unrelated case.
KIVI-TV (https://bit.ly/1T4Y9ov ) reports that Debbra Smith was arrested Tuesday at the Nampa Police station after officers discovered she had a warrant violation. Smith had come into the station to report an offense involving an unidentified party.
Canyon County spokesman Joe Decker said Smith failed to complete a court-ordered labor detail work program, and so is required to spend eight days in jail.
A Canyon County couple has been trying to get Smith out of their Nampa home since they discovered she was living there in March after she entered into a fake lease with someone who claimed to be the owner of the property. However, a judge denied the homeowner’s request to expedite the eviction on Monday.
Smith says she can’t afford to move anywhere else after paying more than $1,500 in rent and deposits.
