SANDY, Ore. (AP) - Police say they arrested a 20-year-old man after he arrived at a high school in Sandy with a concealed handgun.

Police say Brandon Teal went to Sandy High School Wednesday with his 18-year-old brother to ask about enrollment.

School security officers stopped them because they weren’t students and said they smelled marijuana on them.

The men went with staff to a room where police say Teal produced two knives when asked if he had anything he shouldn’t. Teal then agreed to be searched and officers say they found a third knife and a .22 caliber revolver in his waistband.

Teal told police he had been carrying the gun for protection due to an incident elsewhere and said he had no intention to harm students.

Officials say Teal’s brother had scheduled an appointment regarding enrollment.
