ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a Florida police officer shot and wounded a domestic violence suspect who had fired on the officer and wounded a bystander.

The Orlando Sentinel (https://goo.gl/LDKisr) reports that the suspect and bystander were both expected to survive.

Orlando Police Chief John Mina said during a news conference that officers received a call Wednesday about a man choking a woman at an apartment complex. A gang-unit officer in uniform and driving an unmarked police truck spotted the suspect near the complex and tried to stop him. That’s when the suspect reportedly fired at the officer, hitting a man who had been walking his dog. The officer returned fire, hitting the suspect in the torso and hand.

Police weren’t immediately identifying the people involved or saying what race they are.
