NEW YORK (AP) - Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer says an increasing number of cases coming before the court requires the judges to know something of international events or international law.

Breyer spoke Thursday in New York at the spring meeting for the American Bar Association’s Section on International Law. He talked about his most recent book, “The Court and the World,” which came out last year.

Breyer told the audience that when he started on the Supreme Court more than 20 years ago, cases that had any international connections were “few and far between.” He says that’s increased now, and judges need to know what’s going on in the world.
