ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Officials at the University of Rochester say dozens of students have fallen ill after coming down with symptoms linked to norovirus.

University officials say a student is hospitalized in stable condition with a confirmed case of norovirus while 87 other people show symptoms, including nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Most of the cases are students, although officials say a food service worker and some employees also experienced symptoms.

The source of the outbreak hasn’t been identified. There are no plans to cancel classes.

Officials are advising students and staff to wash their hands with soap and water for about 20 seconds to prevent spreading the virus, which is spread from contaminated food or water or by touching contaminated surfaces.

The effects of norovirus tend to last 24 to 48 hours.
