AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Five airports in Maine will split $1.7 million in federal grant money earmarked for the improvement of operations at each.

The Kennebec Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1SCcPbv ) Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King announced Wednesday that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded the money through the Federal Aviation Administration.

Bangor International Airport will receive $900,000 to fund terminal modifications to meet current standards.

Sugarloaf Regional Airport in Kingfield will receive about $298,000 to construct a single-pump self-service fuel station.

Auburn/Lewiston Municipal Airport will also receive about $298,000 to fund terminal reconstruction and expansion work.



Machias Valley Airport will receive $150,000 to fund the replacement of the airport’s rotating beacon and wind cone.

Jackman’s Newton Field will receive nearly $92,000 to fund an aeronautical survey that will evaluate the installation of an area navigation approach.
