LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - Damon Hardesty has been sworn in as an interim member of the Calcasieu Parish School Board.
Hardesty, a Westlake businessman, is filling the District 9 seat of the late Max Caldarera, who died last month. Hardesty was sworn in during Tuesday’s board meeting.
Caldarera was the longtime head football coach at Westlake High School. KPLC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1SbhK6f ) Hardesty is a Westlake graduate and played for Caldarera for several years before working with him as a game videographer and booster club president. Caldarera’s family requested that Hardesty take the vacant seat.
Calderera’s four-year term began in January 2015. The seat will be on the Nov. 8 ballot.
Hardesty says he has not made a decision on whether he will run for the position.
