BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The House municipal committee stalled a bill Thursday that would give a state board the power to review all decisions to remove Confederate monuments. The 7-7 vote failed to advance Republican Rep. Thomas Carmody’s proposal. Here’s how committee members voted:
VOTING FOR THE BILL: Reps. Johnny Berthelot, R-Gonzales; Paula Davis, R-Baton Rouge; Stephen Dwight, R-Lake Charles; Rick Edmonds, R-Baton Rouge; Stephanie Hilferty, R-Metairie; Mike Huval, R-Breaux Bridge; and Stephen Pugh, R-Ponchatoula.
VOTING AGAINST THE BILL: Reps. Joseph Bouie, D-New Orleans; Cedric Glover, D-Shreveport; Sam Jenkins, D-Shreveport; Rodney Lyons, D-Harvey; Denise Marcelle, D-Baton Rouge; Barbara Norton, D-Shreveport; and Patricia Haynes Smith, D-Baton Rouge.
NOT PRESENT FOR THE VOTE: Reps. Robert Billiot, D-Westwego; Steve Carter, R-Baton Rouge; Jerome “Dee” Richard, I-Thibodaux; Malinda White, D-Bogalusa; and Thomas Willmott, R-Kenner.
