CORAM, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island woman has been arrested on charges she severely neglected her dog.

The Suffolk County SPCA said Wednesday that Lateesha Boston of Coram had failed to provide veterinary care for her 4-year-old Maltese mix who had suffered an “extremely painful” neck injury.

The agency says the dog named Fat Boy appeared to have been attacked by another dog. The severely matted, urine-soaked dog was found in early March in pain and unable to move.

He’s being treated at Grady Animal Hospital in Sayville. He will be put up for adoption after he recovers.

The 32-year-old Boston has been charged with a misdemeanor animal cruelty charge. It wasn’t immediately clear if she had an attorney who could comment on the charges.
