CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) - Massachusetts Institute of Technology researchers say they have come up with an app to answer the age old question: Which city has worse drivers, Boston or New York?

Actually, developers at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab say the EverDrive app is a way that cellphones can improve driver safety.

It measures driving behaviors including speeding, acceleration, hard turning, harsh braking and phone distractions. The results can then be reviewed - safely at the end of the trip - and scores posted on a leaderboard where drivers can compare one another.

The app launched earlier this month and coincides with a promotion where drivers in Massachusetts and New York can compete to win up to $50,000 in a contest to determine which state has the best, and worst, drivers.
