NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - The Navy has identified a sailor who was reported missing over the weekend from the Virginia-based USS Carter Hall.

The Virginian-Pilot reports (https://bit.ly/1WtmaIN) Petty Officer 3rd Class Taylor KayJean Machado disappeared Saturday from the dock landing ship, which was conducting training operations for a future deployment.

Machado, of California, enlisted in 2013. She reported to the Carter Hall in May 2014.

Officials say the Navy, assisted by the Coast Guard, searched for Machado for about 72 hours in an area off the coast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, before suspending the search Tuesday afternoon.

The Carter Hall is part of the Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group based at Naval Station Norfolk.
