PARIS (AP) - The French league will have a playoff match next season to decide promotion or relegation between the team finishing third in the second division and the team placing 18th in the first division.

The first game of the two-leg tie will be at the second-division club, with the first-division club hosting the return leg, the LFP said on Thursday in a statement.

The winner will either go up as the third promoted team from division two or will keep its place in the top flight.

A promotion-relegation playoff system was last used in France in 1993.
