RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Gov. Terry McAuliffe has set a special election date for the contest to replace Newport News Sen. John Miller, who died earlier this month.

McAuliffe announced Thursday that the special election would be Nov. 8, the same day as the presidential election.

Miller died expectantly earlier this month of an apparent heart attack.

The 68-year-old Democrat was a former journalist who worked at WVEC television station. Miller also worked as an aide to former U.S. Sen. Paul Trible and at Christopher Newport University.

He was first elected to the state Senate in 2007. Miller represented the Democratic-leaning 1st Senate district.
