JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The former deputy city clerk for the Town of Blue Mountain has been arrested for allegedly embezzling more than $5,000.
The State Auditor’s Office said Thursday in a news release that Machelle Holliday was arrested and served with a demand totaling $5,669.21. It was unknown whether Holliday has an attorney who could comment on her behalf.
Investigators say Holliday allegedly embezzled funds from the town from February 2015 through August 2015. The auditor’s office says Holliday did so on three separate occasions by not depositing funds she collected from private individuals as court-ordered fines/assessments.
Holliday served as deputy clerk from October 2012 until her resignation on Sept. 3, 2015.
